Dubai award: Waste to Houses in final selection
The CIDEM From Waste to Houses project is among 40 finalists for the UN-Habitat Award sponsored by the City of Dubai. It brings together ecologically viable building materials and house improvement in hurricane prone areas. The technologies used are mainly from a CIDEM applied research program and include alternative cement made with recycled wastes from the sugar industry. The initiative, supported by Werkhof Darmstadt-EU, sought new paradigms to increase the availability of materials in the local market to enable house renovation after the frequent hurricanes.
