Some months ago we reported on a seminar in Guatemala, where the local Caritas had invited EcoSur specialists to pass their knowlege on to a group of young professionals who were interested in this ancient technology. Meanwhile the organizers can show real practical results, houses have been built, a promotional video is being circulated, a lobby group for adobe has been organized and a manual for self-builders produced.

For Cuba, the flow of oil stopped suddenly with the collapse of the Soviet Union. While it will be for different reasons and from different causes, the end of the supply of oil is on the horizon. Countries could prepare for the future... if they want to.
The crisis hit all sectors of society. The oil dependent industrial model established during 1959-1990 collapsed with more than 50% cut of the oil supply. The government, however, chose to maintain all social achievements, especially in the areas of education, social security and health.

Lowering the carbon footprint of the EcoSur Network Reduciendo la huella de carbono de Red EcoSur

Every year, the consultant's from the EcoSur Network travel around the world giving technology exchange and assessment. These trips, mostly by air, raise the personal carbon footprint. To compensate for the emission of the greenhouse gases produced by this activity, 12 years ago, a reforestation program was implemented in Nicaragua. This programa, to the date, has over 22,000 trees planted.

Reconstruction cooperation after the earthquake in Nepal Cooperación después del terremoto en Nepal

Ramon Gonzalez, an architect from EcoSur Nicaragua, travelled around the globe to help a local initiative to plan and build a school in the mountains of Nepal. The village of Bhorle in the Langtang national park was almost completely destroyed by the earthquake last April. The German NGO “Gecotec” has asked the EcoSur network to provide a specialist to plan and build a new primary school, using local materials.

"Improving the Home": Rehabilitation of the habitat with a participatory focus Rehabilitación del hábitat en forma participativa en Chingazo, cantón Guano, provincia de Chimborazo, Ecuador

In the Ecuadorian Andes, 3,000 meters above sea level, 1,500 people will benefit from a rural housing reconstruction project. The main goal is to improve the habitat, starting with safe housing, by providing the families involved construction materials and assessment, as long as they are willing to intensive involvement in the process. The intervention aims to contribute to the "good living" of the community and the family through a participatory approach, together with material resources, advice and support to the families, with a focus to a participatory and democratic community and reinforcing the value of local culture.

Rural housing, an old project made with modern techniques CasaRústica, vivienda rural en Loja, Ecuador

CasaRústica is a small construction company located in the province of Loja in southern Ecuador that works using local technologies and building materials such as clay brick, stone, wood, bamboo, chonta, adobe, bahareque and mud. The company, which built rustic house in the rural sector, is led by Servio Burneo Valarezo, a native of the area civil engineer with extensive experience in the use of EcoMaterials.
