Alternative combustibles in the production of fired clay bricks

Sustitución de leña por Bloque Sólido Combustible As a part of the “biomass-bamboo” project being developed by CIDEM in various Cuban provinces, the reduction of firewood to produce fired clay bricks is a main theme. Yolexis Diegues Solamo, a small producer in the province of Granma in the east of Cuba, documents his experiences using alternative combustibles.

Roofing guide for carpinters

Guia de techar para el carpintero Estuardo Quishpillo from the EcoSur team in Ecuador has transfered his wide experience and knowledge as a producer and constructor of MCR roofs into a guide for carpenters that includes graphic methods to determine quantities of materials. He recently used this guide for a roofing course for MCR producers in El Salvador.

Post Disaster reconstruction projects"La Betania" in Honduras, Central America.
EcoSur E-magazine starts a series discussing different experiences in reconstruction projects.
In this first issue we look at a project implemented by the Honduran network partner “EcoViDe” after hurricane “Mitch” in 1998.
The project grew out of the emergency work and the EcoSouth network was able to connect EcoViDe with the “Swiss Red Cross” who financed the project together with  “Swiss Solidarity”.

The mini congress on bamboo: a high on the way to sustainability

Minicongreso del bambú en el camino de la sostenibilidadAt the end of march 2008, producers, academics, scientists, traders, reforesters and farmers came together in Bayamo, capital of the province of Granma in the east of Cuba. At this mini bamboo congress results were presented of the work being carried out since 2004 in Cuba through the “bamboo – biomass” project financed through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, COSUDE.
